Ennio Morricone- Morricone In The Brain: Blowing Your Mind

The overwhelming body of work produced by the prolific Italian composer and arranger Ennio Morricone is of full of incredible subtlety and beauty. This album conveys both and more.Though is better known film scores (The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, etc.) establish him as one of- if not the- greatest film composers of all time their focus on the mood and setting of their respective films make it hard to separate the musical genius of Morricone from the visual genius of Leone for instance, whose vision Morricone was trying to capture in sound. A wonderful record for an August night enjoying the first cool moment of the day. Sit and relax as Morricone moves effortlessly through genres, eras, and instrumentation. The Ventures- Knock Me Out
  A tuneful garage rock inspired masterpiece by some of the greatest rock players of all time, its the tone of this album that sets it apart from the rest. Well produced, but by no means slick, this set tears through mid 60's classics without missing a beat. The Beatles, The Zombies, and Roy Orbison, just to name a few, are conquered with grit and taste. This record is the perfect late summer Rock N' Roll driving record. Their ripping 'Love Potion No. 9' reminds you that yellow lights are really more closely related to green than red. Afro Cubism- Afro Cubism
An incredible meeting of musicians is caught on tape on this extremely enjoyable summary of summer. The Cuban Buena Vista Social Club memebers are joined by some of the greatest Malian musicians of recent history and the results are fantastic. The grooves of this record are timeless as guitar styles separated by oceans intertwine effortlessly, marimbas, vibes, congas all dance around each other and yet the feel of the record is incredibly relaxing. Put this record on and try to grab that day you've been waiting for all summer, where all you have to do is lounge and read.

 
Causa Sui- Summer Sessions
 Every impeccably produced moment of this collection's six sides is deliberate and wonderful. The first song is 24 minutes of  loping perfection, as the rhythm section seems as if it has just woken up. Recorded in 2009 you'll be surprised it wasn't made during the hey day of early prog and krautrock. As summer comes it's shady close we can all lean our heads back and zone out as this record drones out, ya feel me?
